This picture shows the Seacat Diamant leaving Calais on the evening of May 6, 2005. Less than six months later Hoverspeed, a landmark in cross-channel ferry operation went bust. Now Speed Ferries have gone as well. It's still amazing how quickly things went wrong for these things which some people thought would replace conventional ferries.
The latter are still here and still sailing across the Channel but even they are in trouble now. Seafrance announced huge losses last year and others my get in trouble later. I just hope the ferry industry makes it trough these difficult times so we can keep on enjoying the experience and that sights like the picture below won't disappear.
